How to Apply

The complete international-student journey — from application materials to arriving in Canada.

Application Instructions for International Students

Four steps: submit your application, receive admission and pay tuition, apply for a Canadian Study Permit, and arrive in Canada.

1

Submit Application Materials (items 1–7, all required)

  1. Application form — completed, signed, and dated by both parent and student.
  2. Letter of recommendation — completed, signed, and dated by a teacher at the student's current school.
  3. Application fee of CAD $300 (non-refundable) — payable by cash, personal cheque, money order or bank draft, made out to The Duncan Academy.
  4. Official school transcripts from Grade 9 to present (notarized Chinese or English copies).
  5. Copy of the student's valid passport or birth certificate.
  6. For students under 18, two guardianship documents:
    • Notarized Parental Authorization — copy, prepared in the home country.
    • Notarized Custodianship Declaration — original, prepared in Toronto.

    * Guardianship forms are available at vfs-canada.com.cn/chinese.

Students 18 or older must provide details for a Toronto-based contact person.

  7. Guardians must provide Canadian ID — a notarized copy of a Citizenship Card, passport, birth certificate, or Permanent Resident card (or originals presented for verification).
2

Admission Notice & Tuition Payment

  1. Within one week of receiving the complete application and finishing review, a pre-admission letter and tuition invoice will be issued — picked up in person or mailed to the student, guardian, or admissions agent.
  2. Pay tuition by certified cheque, money order, bank draft, or wire transfer (wire details on tdacanada.com), made out to The Duncan Academy.
  3. Once tuition and all related materials are received, the Principal issues an official Letter of Acceptance.
  4. The official acceptance letter and tuition receipt are delivered to the student/guardian/agent, ready to be used for the Canadian Study Permit application.
3

Apply for a Canadian Study Permit

  1. The first application must be made outside Canada.
  2. Submit the official Letter of Acceptance from The Duncan Academy together with all guardianship documents (for students under 18) to the Canadian Embassy or Consulate.
  3. Submit any other required supporting documents alongside the application.
  4. Notify the school of any updates on your visa status — approved, refused, or delayed — by email theduncanacademy@gmail.com or fax (905) 946-9988.

Arriving in Canada

  1. Arrive in Toronto 2 – 3 weeks before classes begin. English and Mathematics assessments (Grades 9 – 12) and the new-student orientation are held in the final two weeks of each term. Late arrival may affect course and school placement.
  2. After arriving in September, November, January, March, or May, report to the Duncan Academy Student Office and bring the following:
    • Valid Canadian Study Permit — original
    • Passport
    • Latest school transcripts from Grade 9 onward — originals
    • New-student information form
  3. At registration, students will receive:
    • Official registration package (all new students)
    • Orientation date (all new students)
    • Health insurance card processing date (all new students)
    • English and Math assessment dates (Grades 9 – 12)
  4. Students must come in to register and select courses (by appointment). Please consult the application checklist to prepare all required documents.
